FAQs: Research Scholar Program-2013

  1. What fields of research can I pursue for my Ph.D.?
    Currently, CDFD is engaged in the following research areas: Computational & Structural Biology, Cancer and Stem cell biology, Genetics and Epigenetics, Cell Signalling, Silkmoth Genomics, Molecular and Cellular biology and Molecular Pathogenesis, please visit our website www.cdfd.org.in for further details.

  2. What is the mode of selection for Stream 1?
    For Stream 1, applicants who appeared for the Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences (JGEEBILS 2013) held on December 9, 2012 would be eligible for consideration. From amongst these applicants, a shortlist of candidates (CDFD JGEEBILS-2013 shortlist) would be prepared, based on a cut-off determined by CDFD. These shortlisted candidates would be asked to directly appear for interviews on 21st May 2013 in Hyderabad.

  3. What is the mode of selection for Stream 2?
    For Stream 2, the selection process will consist of two steps. Qualified Applicants, (including those who appeared for JGEEBILS-2013 but do not figure in the CDFD JGEEBILS-2013 shortlist) who produce proof of having cleared the exams mentioned in the eligibility criteria would be invited to appear in the written/ LAN based conducted on June 16, 2013 [Sunday]. In the second step, only those candidates who qualify in the written/ LAN based exam will be called for interview on June 17, 2013 [Monday].

  4. Can the LAN exam be taken anywhere else other than Hyderabad?
    NO. The Online test will be conducted in an authorized centre in Hyderabad only. The candidates must come to Hyderabad to appear for the exam.

  5. What will be the test syllabus for the LAN Exam?
    Questions on Biology upto Masters level; Chemistry and Physics upto 10+2 level in addition to General Knowledge and Aptitude based questions.

  6. What is the pattern of the online exam and is there any negative marking?
    The exam will be of objective type, consisting of multiple choice questions. The candidate will have to choose one correct answer from the given set of choices. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. Candidates shortlisted for the CDFD LAN based exam only can take the mock test.

  7. Will CDFD provide any TA / DA?
    Only the candidates whose name appears in the 'CDFD - JGEEBILS' shortlist will be paid to and fro sleeper class rail fare from the actual place of undertaking the journey or from the normal place of their residence whichever is nearer to Hyderabad on production of proof of undertaking the journey.

    No TA / DA will be paid for attending the LAN-based examination and the following interview.

  8. What documents/ certificates should be produced at the time of the interview?
    The candidate must produce original certificates in support of the education and experience qualifications claimed by him/ her in the application.

  9. Which lab is a candidate assigned to in CDFD after the exam and interview?
    The final assignment of lab shall be decided by the Selection panel based on the candidate.s academic qualifications, performance in the test/ personal interview and research interests.

  10. What if the candidate is eligible, but missed the deadline for applying for RSP-2013 LAN Exam?
    Those candidates who meet the eligibility criteria in all respects, but could not apply online or missed the last date for submission of application, can enrol under 'Spot Registration' category on the day of the exam at the venue. The eligible candidates shall have to furnish photo ID, documents in original and proof of having cleared the JRF/NET exam at the time of registration.
