Abstract:

My lab uses C. elegans to study genes that coordinate the dialogue between the reproductive system and aging pathways. To understand the molecular underpinning of this complex and dynamic relationship, we have used as molecular tools a group of pro-longevity transcription factors, DAF-16/FOXO3A, TCER-1/TCERG1 and NHR-49/PPARa. Our studies have revealed that these proteins impact lipid homeostasis, innate immunity and stress-response pathways to translate signals from germ cells into physiological changes in lifespan and healthspan. I will discuss some of our recent discoveries in this area.
